Undoubtedly, the first successful flight trials of the Wright brothers in 1903 were among the most important technical and scientific developments of the last century. Few inventions have been able to change human life as much as aircraft. Thanks to the technological developments in the century since the invention of aircraft and the results of the researches foreseen for the next half century, everywhere in the world will be accessible in a shorter time.

Flying of an aircraft is a serious engineering problem that can only occur in a small region of the multidimensional parameter space. For example, the physical parameters of the wings should be large enough to handle the aircraft, but these physical parameters should not change the general physical parameters of the aircraft to the ground. There are large-scale research and development projects that have been subjected to many criteria such as applicability, financial capacity and reproducibility in all modules of today’s aircraft. Examples of these research projects include advanced propulsion technologies, dynamics and control, sensor and actuator technologies, air dynamics and acoustics, CFD-based optimization. In addition, since the nature conditions that an aircraft is exposed to in the air are very different from those on the ground, these conditions need to be modeled with reliable and valid algorithms in error-free computer processors. For these reasons, the design and construction of aircraft has become a serious engineering branch that requires meticulous attention.

Many inventions, which are the products of today’s technology, have found applications in the field of aviation. These technological advances have made the aircraft produced with today’s technology more complex and requiring more expertise. In modern aircraft, many systems that have very low fault tolerance and require very fast decision-making are controlled by complex electronic structures. The design, construction and integration of these systems into aircraft has also become a research topic in itself. In addition, research is being carried out to increase the efficiency of these systems, some of which result in unpredictable innovative technologies.

As the University of Turkish Aeronautical Association our goals are to provide the Turkey’s need of qualified human power and R&D staff in the field of aeronautical engineering; to support large-scale research projects established with international cooperation and open to cooperation; to train the personnel who will work as senior manager, module designer, expert or project manager in these projects; and to meet the need for large-scale National Research Center.

The curriculum of the Department of Aeronautical Engineering was designed by our experts as a curriculum in which students are taught mathematics, computer and science in the best way, advanced courses in aeronautical engineering are offered and the opportunity to choose different branches in accordance with today’s technology.
